The Golden Eagles didn’t have the hot outside shooting they did the first couple of games, so they ramped up their defense and their driving game and still came away with a 26 point win over a good Norwell team. After shots weren’t falling early, only up 13-10 after the first quarter, the Eagles ramped up their defensive effort and their driving to the basket with patience and won the 2nd quarter 17-6 to set the tone the rest of the way taking a 14 point lead into the half. They then methodically took the game over the 2nd half with continued defensive pressure and patient offense ultimately winning by 26. The Golden Eagles were led in scoring by senior RJ Shugart with 24 points. Jace Tonagel had 14 points and 6 rebounds. Freshman Will Tonagel had 9 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and and 5 steals in a great complete game effort. Landon Cruzan had some great minutes off the bench scoring 6 points and a pair of rebounds. KD Simmons scored 4 points with 3 rebounds. Jayden Younce had 3 points and 4 rebounds. Rounding out the scoring was Luke Elzinga with 2 points and 3 rebounds, and Kaliq Simmons with 2. The Golden Eagles open CIC play next Friday night as they host the Mississinewa Indians.
