Freshmen Boys Handle Panthers | 58-27

By Michael Law | Jan 13, 2026 8:18 AM

The Oak Hill Golden Eagles turned a competitive start into a commanding performance Monday night, rolling past the Elwood Panthers 58–27 at The Eagles Nest in Mier. Both teams traded buckets early in a fast-paced first quarter. Graham Arrendale erupted for a team-high eight points - including four from the line - while Matthew Lawson added a free throw and Christian Pavey came off the bench to score two, giving Oak Hill a 12–9 edge after one. The Golden Eagles flipped the switch in the second, unleashing their signature press defense to disrupt Elwood and create easy looks. Lawson and Corey Templin each added four points off the pressure, but Arrendale took over with 13 points as Oak Hill exploded for a season-high 21 in the quarter while holding the Panthers to just five. Halftime: 33–14. Oak Hill shifted focus to half-court defense in the third and continued to suffocate Elwood. Tytan Ott and Arrendale each scored twice, Tanner Martin and Templin drained threes, Lawson hit a free throw, and Pavey dominated the paint for four points. The Golden Eagles allowed only six as the lead swelled to 48–20 entering the fourth. In the final frame, Oak Hill kept the pedal down. Arrendale added a bucket and two free throws, Ott and Pavey scored inside, and Tayt Bowlin notched his first points of the season since returning from injury. For the first time this year, the Golden Eagles scored double digits in every quarter while limiting the opponent to single digits throughout - a complete team effort. Arrendale led all scorers with a monster 27 points, followed by Pavey (9), Templin (7), Lawson (6), Ott (4), Martin (3), and Bowlin (2). After a shaky rebounding start, Oak Hill imposed their will and showed championship-level focus. Next challenge: a triple header format for the big county/conference rivalry at Eastbrook this Friday, tip-off 5:00 p.m.
