The game got started with a Jace Tonagel 3 point shot, and the shots kept falling! Jace hit two more three’s in the quarter as he torched the nets for 18 points in the quarter! Will Tonagel and Jayden Younce also nailed three point shots respectively as the Eagles shot out to a 24-10 first quarter lead. The 2nd quarter went back and forth with the Eagles winning it 19-13 to take a 20 point lead to halftime. Halfway through the 3rd quarter Jace went down and basically got trampled on, and that completely motivated the team (army of one) as they erupted for 21 points in the quarter after starting the half a little slow. KD Simmons off the bench helped Jace pace the offense in that 3rd quarter scoring 9 points to Jace’s 8. It was over from there as the Golden Eagles put it on cruise control the remainder of the game. The sectional championship is the first since the 2018 state championship season! Stats for the game: Jace Tonagel led the way with a phenomenal performance scoring 31 points, with 10 assists, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals. Will Tonagel had 13 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. KD Simmons had 12 points and a pair of rebounds. Landon Cruzan had 7 points. Jayden Younce had 6 points and 3 rebounds. Luke Elzinga, Landon Watts and Solomon Boswell each chipped in 2 points to round out the scoring. The Golden Eagles record breaking record is now 24-1 with the sectional championship. We will play Benton Central next Saturday for a regional championship with the site yet to be determined.
