The Lady Eagle Track & Field team competed for the 2nd straight weekend in the Hoosier State Relays Indoor Series, this time at Taylor University Friday night. The ladies posted some impressive performances and marks en route to winning 3 events, grabbing 2 additional Runner Up finishes, and combining to post 7 new Program All Time Top 10 marks. The HSR is the indoor state series that sees qualifying meets held every week and weekend in March leading up to the HSR Indoor State Finals at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Saturday March 28th. Saturday's event included over 20 schools of all sizes. All times and marks are entered into a ranking system in which the Top 24 in the State in each event are HSR Indoor State Meet Qualifiers. The ladies had multiple events on Friday that put them in position with a week left to earn a handful of State Qualifying spots. The lone individual event win on the night came from Sophomore Bri Dailey in the High Jump winning the event with a clearance of 5 feet. Her mark was good for 7th all time for a Lady Eagle - the 3rd best by someone overall behind Janae Moffitt and Ellie Campbell. Two Lady Eagle Relays also earned impressive wins Friday. The Distance Medley Relay of Senior Biruk Travis and Audrey Rex along with Junior Quinn Brunner and Sophomore Lilly Hunt won in 13:40. For the 2nd straight week Brunner grabbed the lead for the Lady Eagles and they never trailed. Their time Friday was over 5 seconds faster than a week ago when they were disqualified and the 5th best DMR time in program history both indoor and outdoor. It is also the fastest time in the event since 2019 for the Lady Eagles. The quickest in nearly 15 years without someone named Margo Hornocker or Mollie Gamble on the relay. The Lady Eagles 4x400 Meter Relay for Juniors Lilly Edwards, Erika Newhouse, and Kora Pond along with Sophomore Emi Babinski took 1st in a solid 4:26, also good for 5th All Time in program history. Newhouse in the Long Jump and Senior Kaitlyn Scalf earned Runner Up finishes for the Lady Eagles. Newhouse's jump of 15-5.5 was also the 5th best in program history indoors. Senior Ava Keith and Sophomore Callie Nuber took 3rd and 4th in the Pole Vault both setting new personal best and posting the 4th and 5th bet heights in program history indoors. Keith was also 5th in the Long Jump. The Lady Eagle's 4x800 Meter Relay of Senior Addison Carey along with Freshmen Shelby Hollingsworth, June Burtner, and Cali Myers was 3rd overall. Their time was just outside the Top 10 All Time in program history. Freshman Eva Tripp took 4th in the High Jump. Her Senior sister Sarah Beth Tripp was 7th in the Shot Put. Additional Top 10 Lady Eagle finishes came from newcomer Sophomore Taylor Campbell who was 8th in Long Jump and also posted a Top 10 All Time mark in the 60 Meter Dash. The 4x200 Meter Relay of Sophomores Gabriella Nero, Haylie Turnpaugh, along with Freshmen Aleese Warnock and Brylie Speicher took 7th overall. The Lady Eagles are right back in action Saturday competing at IWU. Tuesday March 17th they travel to Indianapolis for their last HSR Qualifier competing at the Fall Creek Pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
