The Golden Eagle Track & Field team competed for the 2nd straight weekend in the Hoosier State Relays Indoor Series, this time at Taylor University Friday night. The men posted some impressive performances and marks en route to earning 7 Top 10 Finishes including and combining to post 6 new Program All Time Top 10 marks. The HSR is the indoor state series that sees qualifying meets held every week and weekend in March leading up to the HSR Indoor State Finals at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Saturday March 28th. Saturday's event included over 20 schools of all sizes. All times and marks are entered into a ranking system in which the Top 24 in the State in each event are HSR Indoor State Meet Qualifiers. The men had multiple events on Friday that put them in position with a week left to earn a handful of State Qualifying spots. The top finish on the night for the Golden Eagles came in the highly competitive 4x800 Meter Relay in which the men took Runner Up honors. The foursome of Seniors Corban Tippey and Caden Myers along with Junior Wyatt Hart and Freshman Graham Arrendale came from behind to take 2nd in a time of 8:37. The time is the 5th best in Program History indoors. Hart came back with Arrendale in the Distance Medley Relay to take 3rd. Joining Hart and Arrendale was Sophomore Grant Melton and Junior Rocky Johnson. The top individual effort came from Senior Thane Jones in Shot Put with a 3rd and a Top 10 All Time Program toss. Newcomers Juniors Dylan Archer and Cayden Jones had strong 1st showings as they took 9th and 10th overall in the 60 Meter Dash both posting Top 10 All Time Program times. The duo joined up with classmate Jalen Scott and Freshman Tayt Bowlin to take 4th in the 4x200 Meter Relay while posting the 7th fastest time in Program History. Additional relay success came in the 4x400 Meter Relay as the groups of Johnson along with Senior Marc Caritos and Sophomores Christian Smiley and Noah Wagner took 4th also in a time good enough for 7th All Time in Program History indoors. The only other Golden Eagle Top 10 on the night came from Sophomore Braylon Carey taking 9th in the Long Jump. The Golden Eagles are right back in action Saturday competing at IWU. Tuesday March 17th they travel to Indianapolis for their last HSR Qualifier competing at the Fall Creek Pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
