The Track & Field teams concluded a weekend that featured back to back Hoosier State Relay Indoor Series Qualifiers - Saturday competing at Indiana Wesleyan University a few short hours after competing at Taylor University on Friday. The two teams combined to post 5 Top 10 Finishes on the day in the 25+ team IWU event including 6 Top 10 Program All Time Best Marks. The best relay finish and overall performance on the day belonged to the Lady Eagles 4x800 Meter Relay of Senior Biruk Travis, Junior Quinn Brunner, Sophomore Lilly Hunt, and Freshman Cali Myers. Fresh off winning the Distance Medley Relay at Taylor Friday night Travis, Brunner, and Hunt paired with Myers to run a 10:39 flat track time good enough for 3rd All Time in Program History. Their banked track conversion time of 10:32 would have them as the fastest 4x8 indoors in Program History by 3 seconds. It was the fastest time for the Lady Eagles in nearly a decade. Brunner grabbed the lead early in their heat posting a new personal best while Hunt and Myers held the lead and Travis brought it home. The Lady Eagles won their heat and took 4th overall behind Carmel, Homestead, and South Bend Adams. The best individual effort of the day came from Junior Golden Eagle Jalen Scott who took 4th in the 60 Meter Dash in 7.2. Classmate Dylan Archer was 14th overall matching his personal best of 7.45. Both times are Top 100 Program Marks for Scott and Archer. Sophomore Lady Eagle had another great day in the Pole Vault matching her personal best set Friday night and taking 8th overall in the event. Two other relays earned Top 10 overall finishes while also posting Top 10 Program All Time marks. The Golden Eagles 4x800 Meter Relay of Senior Marc Caritos, Junior Wyatt Hart, Sophomore Christian Smiley, and Freshman Graham Arrendale took 8th overall while the Lady Eagles 4x400 Meter Relay of Travis, Hunt, Myers, and Sophomore Emi Babinski were a respectable 10th in the 6th best time in Program History at 4:29. The only other Top 25 finishes on the day for either side were Junior Erika Newhouse in the Long Jump at 16th and Senior Sarah Beth Tripp hitting mark of over 28 feet in the Shot Put for the 2nd straight day and earning a 22nd place finish. It was the 2nd straight day that Newhouse posted a Top 10 Program mark in the Long Jump. The HSR is the indoor state series that sees qualifying meets held every week and weekend in March leading up to the HSR Indoor State Finals at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Saturday March 28th. Saturday's event included over 20 schools of all sizes. All times and marks are entered into a ranking system in which the Top 24 in the State in each event are HSR Indoor State Meet Qualifiers. Both teams posted multiple times and distances over the weekend competitions to potentially qualify for the Indoor State Finals. The last HSR Qualifier for our athletes is Tuesday March 17th at the Indiana State Fairgrounds as the teams compete on the Indoor State Finals track at the Fall Creek Pavilion.
