An exciting game from beginning to end saw the Golden Eagles claim their 4th ever Regional Championship! It started out well for the Eagles as our defense and offensive punch helped us run out to an 11-2 start and Benton Central quickly called a timeout. From there the rest of the quarter both defenses played strong and we traded baskets to finish the quarter up 20-11. In the 2nd quarter the Bison came all the way back in the first 4 minutes to within 2pts, 21-19. After our timeout the Golden Eagles re-centered themselves, and built the lead back up to 11 at the half. The Golden Eagles had another strong 3rd quarter, winning it by 10 to take a 21 point lead into the 4th. But the Bison didn’t give up and fought their way all the way back to within 8, before we took another timeout with the score at 62-54. That settled the Eagles once again as they went the rest of the three minutes in the 4th on a 13-2 run, ultimately winning 75-56. We had a complete team victory on both sides of the ball with multiple players stepping up at just the right times throughout the game. KD Simmons did his damage coming off the bench early and leading the team with a career high 21 points and 8 rebounds! Jace Tonagel, being hounded all game finished with 14 points and 5 assists. Will Tonagel finished with 12 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds and 4 steals. Jayden Younce poured in double digits as well scoring 11 points with 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 3 steals! RJ Shugart coming off the bench after being out the last 2 weeks with an emergency appendectomy, played some quality minutes scoring 7 points, with 3 rebounds and an assist. Landon Watts also scored 7 points, with 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Rounding out the scoring was Luke Elzinga with 3 points and 2 assists. Your Regional Champion Golden Eagles are now a record breaking 25-1 and move on to the semi-state as one of the last 8 teams standing, and will play next Saturday. The Semi-State draw will be tomorrow at 2pm. The fan support was tremendous once again! Thank you, and come on out again as we try to punch our ticket to the State Championship next Saturday!
