After being so close in their last 5 Championship Meets taking 2nd by the smallest of margins at Grant 4, the Central Indiana Conference, and the Sectional a year ago and again at the Grant 4 and Conference this season the OHTF Golden Eeagles righted the ship Thursday night at Marion High School putting forth their best collective meet of the season to win the IHSAA Marion Sectional with 108.5 points distancing themselves from 2nd Place Grant 4 Champion Mississinewa (74.5) by over 30 points. A strong Bluffton team was 3rd with 74 points while CIC Champion Eastbrook was 4th with 73. Host Marion rounded out the Top 5 with 69 points. The title marked the 6th Sectional Championship for the Golden Eagles in the last 7 Seasons. Overall it is the 11th Sectional Title in Program History and the 9th since 2012. Combined with the Lady Eagles at least 1 OHTF team has won a Sectional Championship for 7 straight seasons. In all the Golden Eagles won 6 of 16 events, had double qualifiers in potentially 4 events, and managed to qualify athletes to next Thursday May 28th's IHSAA Fort Wayne Carroll Regional in 8 of the 16 events. Senior Corban Tippey and Junior Jalen Scott led the way as multi event winners. Tippey won individual titles in the 1600 Meter Run and 3200 Meter Run scoring big points with Junior Wyatt Hart who took 3rd in the 1600 and 2nd in the 3200 behind Tippey. The duo joined up with Senior Caden Myers and Sophomore Christian Smiley to move up from 5th on paper entering the meet to win the 4x800 Meter Relay to start the night in a season best time nearly 25 seconds faster than they had run outdoors previously. Their time was the 9th best time in OHTF Program History. Scott once again was the top sprinter on the night as the Junior won the 100 Meter Dash for the 2nd straight year and anchored the winning 4x100 Meter Relay along with Senior Jerald Graves and Scott's classmates Dylan Archer and Cayden Jones. Scott and Jones qualified for the final in the 200 Meter Dash but sat it out once the lead was safe. Graves added a strong 5th in the 100 behind Scott. The 4x1 posted the 2nd Best time in OHTF Program History of 43.6 just .3 off the all time record. Jones had a big night in the Long Jump as he stepped up to get 2nd after entering the event seeded 4th. Classmate Luke Elzinga took 4th in the event. Elzinga is awaiting a possible callback in the event. Junior Kyle Brower won the Pole Vault in 14-6 matching his personal best which is good for 2nd All Time in Program History. His classmate Meyer Middlesworth was 5th scoring solid points in the event. Like Elzinga Middlesworth is in position for a possible callback. Another individual qualifier on the night was Senior Thane Jones who threw a new personal best pushing 50 feet good enough for 3rd and a spot in the Regional. His mark of 49-9.5 moves him up into 13th All Time.
