The OHXC Golden Eagles started off their 2026 season with a strong showing at the Terre Haute South Valley Kickoff held on the world famous Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course (home of the IHSAA State Finals & many NCAA Championships). Ina field of nearly 20 teams the Golden Eagles finished a very solid 3rd behind one of the best Class 3a Programs in the State Northview and host Terre Haute South. Northview and South tied with 55 points with Northview winning on a tiebreaker. The Golden Eagles scored 71 points for 3rd. Richmond 83 and Cascade 138 rounded out the Top 5. Golden Eagle Freshman Brantley Blair picked up right where he left off last fall in Junior High Cross Country winning the individual title in 16:20. Blair won the State Meet and set a New Junior High State record on the same course last fall. Blair won his 1st High School event by 7 seconds after taking the lead for good just 1000 meters into the race. His time is already the 15th best in Program History and tied Owen Jackson for the 6th best time by a Golden Eagle on the course. His time is also the 4th best time by a Freshman ever and the fastest 1st meet time in Program History. Senior Wyatt Hart joined Blair on the Top 10 Podium with a very strong 6th place finish. Hart nearly set a lifetime best in the process on a very wet and rough course. Junior Josh Clark was Top 20 in 18th while Junior Bret Hueston was Top 25 in 23rd. Sophomore Graham Arrendale was just outside the Top 25 in 26th. Senior Eli Leak had a strong day taking 31st. Junior Christian Smiley rounded out the Varsity Top 7 in 34th. Additional Top 50 finishers for OHXC were Junior Gavin Key 35th, Junior Grant Melton 36th, Junior Jace Hueston 40th, and Freshman Brekyn Pritchett 46th. The Golden Eagles are back in action next Tuesday when they travel South again to compete in the Bloomington North Charlie Warthan Hokum Karem.
