For the 2nd straight year and 4th time in their 6 years attending the event since 2020 the OHXC Golden Eagles traveled South to compete in the prestigious Rick Weinheimer Columbus North Classic and came away with a Team Championship. The event sees more than 2,000 runners combined in all the races from 3 state compete in one large race consisting of nearly 55 schools. After the race the results are broken up by football class into Large School (4a-5a-6a) and Small School School (1a-2a-3a). Saturday in hot tough conditions the Golden Eagles closed out a brutally hot week with their 2nd straight Small School Team Title with 72 points. OHXC has now won the Small School Division in 2020, 2023, 2025, and 2026. Brown County was 2nd with 104 points while Austin was 3rd with 111. Overall there were 32 schools competing in the Small School Division. In the combined "all classes" results the Golden Eagles would have been 12th behind a school from Ohio and 10 larger Indiana schools including defending State Champion and #1 ranked Columbus North. In all 6 Top 25 ranked teams in Indiana competed in the event Saturday. The Top 20 individuals in each division earn a spot on the podium taking home medals. On a day where times were slow across all the results due to the conditions Golden Eagle Freshman Brantley Blair and Senior Wyatt Hart crossed the line nearly together in 6th and 7th running 16:29 to lead the way with a pair of Top 10s. Junior Josh Clark also grabbed a medal finishing 20th posting a 17:50 Junior Bret Hueston just missed a medal coming in 21st in 17:52 while Sophomore Graham Arrendale was 29th in 18:09. Rounding out the Varsity Top 8 Saturday were Juniors Gavin Key and Grant Melton both coming in the Top 50 and Senior Eli Leak taking 69th. The Golden Eagles stay close to home next Saturday September 12th competing in the Wildcat Classic held at Indiana Wesleyan University.
