The Class 2a #1 ranked OHXC Golden Eagles entered Saturday's 25+ school IWU Wildcat Classic with the goal to see where they stood with depth and taking the risk of breaking the group up into the 2 divisions. The Grey Division featured a combination of smaller and larger schools while the Red Division was composed of larger schools including 7 Top 25 State Ranked Teams. The risk paid off as the Golden Eagles without their top front runner Freshman Bryant Blair still managed to win the Grey Division as a team by 30 points behind Senior Wyatt Hart's individual win while Blair earned an impressive 4th in the Red Elite Race. In the Grey Division the Golden Eagles managed to place 5 athletes on the Top 35 Medal Podium and score an impressive 64 points separating from the field and 2nd place Bluffton with 94 points and 3rd place Heritage Christian with 104. Hart was the individual Champion posting a winning time of 16:31. It was Hart's best time ever on the course. His time was the 11th (soon to be 12th before Blair ran) fastest time on the course by a Golden Eagle. Juniors Josh Clark and Bret Hueston battled both also posting course bests and earning medals in 7th and 8th respectively. Also earning Top 35 Medals for the Golden Eagles were Senior Eli Leak who posted a lifetime best 17:50 to finish 21st. Sophomore Graham Arrendale battling illness all week bounced back to earn his medal in 27th. The Varsity was rounded out 4 additional Top 50 finishes including Junior Grant Melton in 40th, Junior Gavin Key in 43rd, Freshman Brekyn Pritchett in 44th, and Junior Christian Smiley in 46th. In the Red Elite Division Blair stepped earning a Top 35 Medal with his 4th place finish in a loaded individual field. Blair posted the 2nd best time in Program history by a Golden Eagle 15:34. His time is the best ever by a Golden Eagle on the IWU course. Blair was 4th behind 3 Senior athletes. The Golden Eagles compete in the Grant 4 Championship Saturday September 19th at Mississinewa.
