The last time the Golden Eagles of Oak Hill visited the Kings of Lewis-Cass the stakes were high. A sectional championship was on the line. The same was true on Friday night as Oak Hill went on the road to challenge the home team for the sectional title. The feelings of deja vu were short-lived, however, as the Golden Eagles asserted themselves early and often, ultimately bringing home their first sectional title since 2013. It was an inspiring performance by the Golden Eagles, in all three phases of the game. The offense started things off with a 69 yard scoring drive capped off by a 4 yard Dylan Archer touchdown. A formidable opponent, Lewis Cass answered punch for punch for much of the game and took a 15-14 lead into the middle of the second quarter. It seemed for a moment that the game might hinge on a 50 yard Rocky Johnson touchdown reception mid-second quarter as the Golden Eagle defense then forced a turnover on downs followed by a 9 play 74 yard touchdown drive, giving Oak Hill a 28-15 halftime lead. At the start of the second half, Oak Hill conceded a quick touchdown allowing the Kings to cut the lead to 28-21. The answer came on the subsequent possession as Jett Ott kept the ball on a read and housed it from 35 yards out, making it 35-21. Cass answered once again and cut the lead to 35-27, but a costly Lewis Cass interception book-ended by Dylan Archer touchdown runs sealed the deal for the Golden Eagles. Senior fullback Dylan Archer rushed 34 times for 175 yards and 5 touchdowns. Senior quarterback Jett Ott was 6/7 for 113 yards and a touchdown and added another 174 yards on 13 rushing attempts with 1 touchdown. Freshman Colt Engle saw his first significant varsity action and recorded 5 rushed for 39 yards. Senior receiver Rocky Johnson caught two passes for 60 yards and a touchdown and his senior running mate Meyer Middlesworth caught 4 for 53 yards. Defensively, the Golden Eagles were paced by junior linebacker Gage Pearce with 9 tackles and a tackle for loss. Junior linebacker Adam Esslinger recorded Oak Hill's only sack of the night and sophomore safety Cullen Lainhart caught an interception. Oak Hill will play in it's first regional game in 13 years as Lapel makes the trip to Mier next Friday night for a 7pm kickoff.
