The OHXC Golden Eagles started their 2024 season competing Saturday in the stacked Huntington North Invitational. The event featured almost entirely all larger schools as well as the #19 and #24 ranked Teams in the State. The Golden Eagles were undermanned due to injury and late illness and did not post a full varsity score only running 4 athletes in the varsity race. Sophomore Kyle Brower led the way with a Top 50 finish in 18:15. Brower's time was near his personal best from a season ago. Classmate Eli Leak was the #2 Golden Eagle across the line in 85th with Junior Jordan Denham also finishing in the Top 100 in 90th. Leak's time of 19:35 was a personal lifetime best by over a minute. Top 20 State Ranked Fort Wayne Carroll won the event with Yorktown in 2nd and Top 25 State Ranked Fort Wayne Concordia in 3rd. The Golden Eagles did load up the Junior Varsity race with their young Freshmen and Sophomore group. Freshmen Bret Hueston, Gavin Key, and Josh Clark all finished in the Top 20 of the race leading the young Golden Eagle group to a Top 3 Team finish behind Columbia City and Fort Wayne Dwenger and in front of Fort Wayne Carroll. The Golden Eagles host the annual Oak Hill Invitational next Saturday August 31st.
