Boys Basketball Dominates Southwood on the Road!

By Steve Shugart | Jan 21, 2025 9:47 PM

The Golden Eagles ignored the cold weather and heated up the nets at Southwood scoring 72 points while holding the Knights to 33 for the 39 point win. Southwood scored the first 4 points of the game, but then the Eagles got hot! Jace Tonagel caught fire scoring 10 points in the first quarter, then two more threes in the 2nd for his 16 points on the night. He also had about 15 assists on the night for a career high in assists! Jace then passed the torch to RJ Shugart. After scoring 4 points in the first quarter, RJ took off in the 2nd and third hitting at one point 9 of 10 shots for 21 points in the two quarters and finished with a game and career high 30 points! There was much more contribution on the night as all the guys stepped up and hit shots. Also getting in to the scoring column was Owen Middlesworth with 8, Landon Watts with 6, Simmons with 4, and Lamb, Elzinga, Lawson, and Cruzan all with 2 each. Just as impressive as the hot shooting was, the Eagles team defense once again stepped up and held another team under 40, as the Knights could only muster 33. That moves the Golden Eagles to 9-3 on the year winning 4 in a row after the setback in the opening round of the Grant 4. We will travel to Alexandria this Friday night to try and stay undefeated in conference play.
