The Golden Eagles grinded out a tough win at 3A Logansport after getting beat the night before to keep from getting beat back to back games, something they haven’t allowed all season. It was a complete team victory, as everyone who stepped on the floor either had a key big shot or defensive play. Late in the 4th quarter down 3, Landon Cruzan hit a big 3 to tie the game. Before that Landon Watts had hit a three that bounced around and fell in to get it close. Then the Eagles found themselves down by 1 with under a minute to play and when Tonagel got double teamed he threw it out to Owen Middlesworth who swished the 3 to go up by one. We then got a nice defensive stop and they had to foul. RJ Shugart stepped up to the line and nailed them both to go up by 3. The Berries last second three point shot to tie it missed and the Golden Eagles escaped with a great team win. Outsized all night, Ryan Lawson shut down their bigs with his tough inside defense! RJ Shugart had a big 2nd half scoring 11 of his team high 14 points. He also dished out 3 assists on the night. Landon Cruzan had a career high 13 points and 4 rebounds to help get the victory! Jace Tonagel did a little bit of everything scoring 11 points, dishing out 6 assists, and garnering 5 rebounds. Ryan Lawson as well as battling their bigs hit two big three point shots and finished with 9 points, 3 rebounds and an assist. Owen Middlesworth finished with 5 points, the biggest being the three point shot late to give the Eagles the final lead! Luke Elzinga had 3 points, a pair of rebounds and 3 steals in his aggressive play. All 7 players that got into the scoring column hit at least one key 3 point shot during the tightly contested game. The Golden Eagles are now 13-5 and will travel to Tipton Tuesday night to play their 4th game in 8 days. Then they will host Elwood at Swayzee Gym Friday night for a chance to take home a CIC conference championship.
