The Golden Eagles defeated the Kings 55-46 to advance to the sectional finals! The game was tight throughout as the Golden Eagles won the 1st quarter by 1 and the 2nd quarter by 4, to take a 28-23 lead into halftime. Then in the 3rd quarter the Kings got it within 2. Late in the 3rd RJ Shugart hit a pair of inside jumpers and a 3, then with 4 seconds left in the quarter the Eagles went the full distance of the court and got the ball to Shugart in the corner who hit a 3 at the buzzer to put the Eagles up 8 going in to the 4th. At the beginning of the 4th, the Kings hit an inside bucket and then a three to pull within 3. Then Shugart hit another corner 3 to put the Golden Eagles up 6. Then a good defensive stop and with the ball up 6 with about 4 minutes to play, Jace Tonagel pulled up just across half court and practiced his stationary dribbling for about 2 minutes as Lewis Cass refused to come out of their zone running the clock down. They finally came out of their zone, and the Eagles only scored from the charity stripe the rest of the quarter as Cruzan went 1-2, and Tonagel went 4-4. The Kings hit a pair of threes to keep it close, and then Shugart got fouled and one of the Kings players also hit a technical foul, and Shugart sealed the deal hitting 4 straight free throws. Shugart finished the game with 23 points and a pair of rebounds. Jace Tonagel controlled things from the point scoring 12 points, dishing out 7 assists, and pulling down 5 rebounds. Landon Cruzan scored 11 points with 2 assists and a rebound. Luke Elzinga had 5 points and 3 rebounds. Beckham Lamb and Owen Middlesworth each had 2 points., and Landon Watts secured 4 rebounds. That gave the Oak Hill Golden Eagles 17 wins on the season. They will face the 3rd ranked team in the state, Manchester for the sectional championship at 7:30 pm tomorrow night!
