The OHTF Golden Eagles started their 2025 season off Saturday competing in the 25+ school Hoosier State Relay Qualifier held at IWU, a meet featuring some of the state’s biggest and most decorated programs. In all the men set 7 Top 10 Program All Time Indoor marks, earned 6 Top 10 meet finishes, had 1 event champion, 1 event runner up, as well as matching 2 Program Indoor Records. Sophomore Kyle Brower was the individual winner in the pole vault setting a new personal best indoors at 13-3. The mark ties him for the indoor program best with 3 alums - his brother Nate Brower along with Gavin Holz and Caiden Lake. Classmate Jalen Scott was 4th overall in the 60 meter dash in 7.14, a time that tied Tahj Johnson’s indoor program record set in 2019. Senior Drew Elzinga also had a breakthrough performance in the 60 Meter Hurdles clocking 8.93 for 2nd place overall as well as earning the 2nd fastest time indoors in program history trailing alum and former indoor state champion Sammy Sommers. Scott doubled back to anchor the 4x200 Meter Relay to a 6th place overall finish in a time of 1:37.33, also good enough for the 2nd fastest time in program history and the fastest since 2019. Joining him on the relay were Seniors Reese Hernandez, Seth David, and Morshown Cotton. David did not place in the 60 Meter Dash but still managed to run the 10th fastest time in program history. Another top individual performance was Junior Thane Jones finishing 9th overall in the Shot Put with a toss of 44-8.25 good enough for 6th all time in program indoor history and the best toss since 2018. The Golden Eagle’s Distance Medley Relay took a respectable 8th overall in 11:34, a time that ties them for 7th all time in program history. Relay members were Senior Lance Wyrick along with Juniors Caden Myers, Corban Tippey, and Marc Caritos. The HSR series serves as the Indoor State Track & Field qualifying series each year with the meets throughout March serving to fill the HSR State Finals March 29th at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. While the HSR State Finals are “classed” based on football class with 1a-2a-3a being Small School and 4a-5a-6a being Large School, the qualifying meets are not “classed” and everyone competes against each other posting state rankings in attempt to earn a spot in the Indoor State Championships. The Golden Eagles have two more chances to punch a ticket to the HSR Indoor State Championships with meets this coming week on Friday March 14th at Taylor University and Saturday March 15th back at IWU.
