The OHTF Lady Eagles started their 2025 season off Saturday competing in the 25+ school Hoosier State Relay Qualifier held at IWU, a meet featuring some of the state’s biggest and most decorated programs. In all the ladies set 8 Top 10 Program All Time Indoor marks, earned 4 Top 10 meet finishes, 1 event Top 3, as well as setting back to back program records in the same event. Senior Lady Eagles Ellie Campbell and Cail Bowlin got off to fast starts as Bowlin started by breaking recent graduate Leah Highley’s 60 Meter Dash record clocking a 8.47. Highley’s program record had been 8.52. With seconds Campbell surpassed Bowlin’s new record, recording an impressive 8.19. The Lady Eagle sprinters were not done as Sophomore Annie Hale nearly passed Highley as well, running a new personal best 8.53 just missing the old mark. Campbell struggled to find her steps in her featured event the Long Jump but bounced back to take 3rd overall in the High Jump matching her personal best of 5-2. That height is 2nd all time in program history trailing only Janae Moffitt. Campbell and Bowlin rounded out their days by anchoring and leading off the 4x200 Meter Relay team to a 9th place overall finish in a time of 1:52.91 good enough for 2nd all time in program history trailing only last year’s relay. Joining Campbell and Bowling was Junior Audrey Rex and Sophomore Kora Pond. Pond and Rex were also part of the 4x400 Meter Relay that took 6th place overall and posted the 5th fastest time in program indoor history. Joining them were Rex’s classmate Lexi Nuber and Pond’s classmate Erika Newhouse. Another strong individual performance was Senior lady Eagle thrower Jennessa Shields who set a personal best of 34-5 in the Shot Put good enough for 4th overall in the meet and moving her into 2nd all time in program history trailing only Katie Shepherd. The Lady Eagle’s Distance Medley Relay did not place in the Top 10 but established the 8th best time in program history. Team members were Junior Biruk Travis, Sophomore Quinn Brunner, along with Freshmen Rossi Skinner and Lilly Hunt. The HSR series serves as the Indoor State Track & Field qualifying series each year with the meets throughout March serving to fill the HSR State Finals March 29th at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. While the HSR State Finals are “classed” based on football class with 1a-2a-3a being Small School and 4a-5a-6a being Large School, the qualifying meets are not “classed” and everyone competes against each other posting state rankings in attempt to earn a spot in the Indoor State Championships. The Lady Eagles have two more chances to punch a ticket to the HSR Indoor State Championships with meets this coming week on Friday March 14th at Taylor University and Saturday March 15th back at IWU.
