The OHTF Lady Eagles competed for the 2nd straight weekend in the Hoosier State Relays Indoor State Series. This weekend they went back to back competing at Taylor University Friday night and Indiana Wesleyan Saturday. The two events served as the last time for the Lady Eagles to potentially qualify for the HSR Indoor State Championships. The events featured 10+ teams on Friday and 25+ teams on Saturday. In all the Lady Eagles had 16 Top 10 overall finishes, 7 Top 2 overall finishes, 2 event wins, and set 16 new program indoor program Top 10 marks. The HSR series serves as the Indoor State Track & Field qualifying series each year with the meets throughout March serving to fill the HSR State Finals March 29th at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. While the HSR State Finals are “classed” based on football class with 1a-2a-3a being Small School and 4a-5a-6a being Large School, the qualifying meets are not “classed” and everyone competes against each other posting state rankings in attempt to earn a spot in the Indoor State Championships. Senior Lady Eagle Ellie Campbell had a strong weekend posting 2 Individual Titles, broke one of her own indoor program records, and was part of a relay that ran the 2nd fastest time in Program history. Friday Campbell won the High Jump and Long Jump recording marks of 5-4 and 16-9.5. The 5-4 in High Jump was a new personal lifetime best that ranks 2nd all time in indoor program history and 3rd all time ever behind Janae Moffitt and Samantha Mauk. Her Long Jump of 16-9.5 also ranks 2nd all time in indoor program history trailing her own program record. On Saturday Campbell bettered her own 60 Meter program record clocking a 8.17. She had previously set a new record a week ago at 8.19. Her time Saturday was good for 6th overall in a larger field. She also anchored the 4x200 Meter Relay to a 6th place overall and 2nd fastest program mark. Joining her on the relay was Senior Classmate Cail Bowlin, Junior Audrey Rex, and Sophomore Annie Hale. Campbell was 2nd in Saturday's Long Jump overall. Senior Lady Eagle Thrower Jennessa Shields also had a solid individual weekend taking 2nd overall in the Shot Put on Friday at Taylor and 6th overall Saturday at IWU. Shields did not set a new personal best on the weekend but still tossed Top 5 program all time marks. Junior Lady Eagle Lexi Nuber had a breakout race in the 60 Meter Hurdles Friday at Taylor breaking 11 seconds for the 1st time clocking a 10.9 good enough for 2nd overall and 4th best in Program History. The best relay finish of the weekend came from the Lady Eagle's Distance Medley Relay who took 2nd overall at Taylor in the 7th best time in Program history. Competing on the relay were Junior Biruk Travis along with Sophomores Quinn Brunner, Erika Newhouse, and Kora Pond. That same foursome came back Saturday at IWU to run a season best in the 4x800 Meter Relay good enough for 7th overall. Pond had a special weekend through her relay events also anchoring the 4x400 Meter Relay to a season best and 7th overall at IWU Saturday. The team consisting of Pond and Nuber along with Sophomore Lilly Edwards and Freshman Bri Dailey ran the 5th best time in Program history. Nuber, Edwards, and Dailey combined with Rex Friday at Taylor to take 2nd overall but in a time not as fast as Saturday's. Additional Top 10 overall finishes for the Lady Eagles on the weekend were Dailey's 8th place in High Jump and Senior Gwen Thompson's 9th place in Shot Put both at Taylor. The 4x800 Meter Relay of Juniors Addison Carey and Kaitlyn Scalf along with Freshmen Rossi Skinner and Lilly Hunt were 6th overall at Taylor. Rex, Edwards, Hale, and Senior Riley Alfandre ran a program Top 10 mark at Taylor in the 4x200 Meter Relay good enough for 6th overall. With a single week of additional meets being run throughout the state the Lady Eagles now wait to see if their marks stand up for a Top 24 Class 1a-2a-3a State Ranking and a HSR State Birth. Presently the Lady Eagles have Campbell ranked in the Top 24 in all 3 of her individual events the Long Jump, High Jump, and 60 Meters. Campbell is also part of the 4x2 Relay ranked Top 24 along with all three other relays. Pond currently is in position to potentially qualify in all 4 relays. An accomplishment no one in Program history has ever done in the same year. In fact if standings stick it will be the 1st time in OHTF Program History all 8 girls and boys relays qualify for the HSR Finals in the same year. Shields is the lone other potential individual QUALIFIER sitting Top 24 ranked in the Shot Put. The rankings and state qualifications are made final on arch 24th.
