OHTF Prepares for Indoor State Finals After Earning Record Breaking Qualifications - Campbell, Pond, Wyrick Set New Marks

The OHTF Program qualified a large contingency of athletes for tomorrow's Hoosier State Relays Indoor Track and Field State Championships held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. In all the Lady Eagles and Golden Eagles combined to qualify an athlete in all 10 of the scored events and of the 20 combined events OHTF will be represented in 8 individual events and for the 1st time in Program History All 8 Relays. The previous high had been 7 of the 8 Relays twice previously. The HSR series serves as the Indoor State Track & Field qualifying series each year with the meets throughout March serving to fill the HSR State Finals March 29th at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. While the HSR State Finals are “classed” based on football class with 1a-2a-3a being Small School and 4a-5a-6a being Large School, the qualifying meets are not “classed” and everyone competes against each other posting state rankings in attempt to earn a spot in the Indoor State Championships. The "small school" event begins after the "large school" event roughly at 3:00 pm. Tickets are purchased online through the www.iatccc.org website. Lady Eagle Senior Ellie Campbell is a 4 event qualifier for the 2nd straight year. After earning 3 All State Medals a year ago Campbell qualified for Saturday's Finals in the Long Jump, High Jump, 60 Meter Dash, and as anchor of the 4x200 Meter Relay. Campbell has program records in 3 of those 4 events already. She also became the most decorated indoor HSR athlete in program history in regards to HSR Finals Qualifications now with 11 surpassing Margo Hornocker's 10. It also betters the boys program mark. Campbell additionally became the 1st Lady Eagle Athlete in Program History to qualify for the HSR Finals in 3 individual events. Another Lady Eagle setting a new program record is Sophomore Kora Pond as she was part of all 4 of the Lady Eagles qualifying relays. She joins Campbell on the 4x2 as well as anchoring the 4x4, 4x8, and as part of the DMR. In doing so Pond became the 1st athlete in Program History to hold this honor. The Golden Eagles are led by Senior Lance Wyrick along with Juniors Caden Myers and Corban Tippey as the trio are all 3 event qualifiers. The three Golden Eagles are all part of the 4x8, 4x4, and DMR. In qualifying in 3 events this year Wyrick has now tied OHTF Alum Sammy Sommers for most career HSR qualifications by boy athlete in program history at 10. The Top 8 Finishers in each event will be recognized by the State Coaches Association as Indoor All State.
