The OHTF Golden Eagles put up a strong fight to a very strong Mississinewa team at Friday's Grant 4 Championship but fell just 11 points short of their 7th straight title. Mississinewa won with 84 points while the Golden Eagles who won 4 events and grabbed 3 Runner Up finishes as well scored 73 for 2nd. Eastbrook was 3rd with 51 and Madison Gran totaled 36. Golden Eagle Senior Lance Wyrick and Sophomore Luke Elzinga were both double winners on the night. The pair combined with Luke's older brother Drew and Senior classmate Morshown Cotton to win the 4x400 Meter Relay by .o1 seconds. Wyrick also anchored the winning 4x800 Meter Relay team. He was joined by classmate Owen Middlesworth along with Juniors Caden Myers and Corban Tippey. Wyrick added Runner Up finishes in both the 1600 Meter Run and 800 Meter Run to his night. Elzinga grabbed his individual 1st in the Long Jump along with a solid 3rd in the 400 Meter Dash. The older Elzinga took Runner Up honors in both hurdle events. The other Golden Eagle win on the night came from Sophomore Kyle Brower who won the Pole Vault. The only other runner up finish came from Tippey in the 3200 Meter Run who also added a solid 3rd in the 1600. Additional Top 3 finishes came from Senior Reese Hernandez in the 200 Meter Dash, Myers in the 800, Freshman Josh Clark in the 3200 Meter Run, and the 4x10 Meter Relay of Hernandez, Cotton, Senior classmate Seth David, and Freshman Jesse Zwirn. The Golden Eagles host Senior Night on Tuesday against Alexandria and Mississinewa.
