The OHTF Lady Eagles doubled up the field at Tuesday's IHSAA Marion Sectional scoring 166 points to win their 2nd straight Sectional Championship - their 3rd in 4 Years. Marion followed the Lady Eagles in 2nd with 78 points while Bluffton was 3rd with 76, Eastbrook and Madison Grant rounded out the Top 5 with 70 and 63 points respectively. The 166 points was the most by a Marion Sectional winning team in 12 seasons dating back to 2013 when Huntington North scored 167. Prior to 2022 the Lady Eagles had won only 1 Sectional Championship previously in program history in 2015. The Lady Eagles now join Cross Country and Volleyball as the only girls programs in school history to win back to back 1 class IHSAA titles. In all the Lady Eagles had 6 event Champions, 4 event Runners Up, and a combined 15 Regional Qualifiers - a number that could continue to grow with callbacks. They scored in all 16 events, scored multiple athletes in 12 of 13 individual events, put 2 athletes in the Top 3 4 times, and had 18 athletes score points. Senior Lady Eagle Sprinters Ellie Campbell and Cail Bowlin led the way both winning multiple events and earning a combined 7 IHSAA Regional Qualifications. Campbell advanced to the Regional in all 4 of her events after winning the Long Jump and 100 Meter Dash - which Bowlin took 2nd in, along with 3rd place finishes in both the High Jump and 200 Meter Dash. Bowlin was the winner in the 200 while also anchoring the 4x100 Meter Relay to a win. Joining her on the relay were Senior Classmate Riley Alfandre, Junior Ava Keith, and Sophomore Annie Hale. Junior Lady Eagle Lexi Nuber also had a big night advancing to the Regional in all 3 of her events. Nuber won the 300 Meter Hurdles and took 3rd in the 100 Meter Hurdles. She also anchored the runner up 4x400 Meter Relay. Joining her on the Regional Qualifying relay was Junior classmate Audrey Rex, Sophomore Lilly Edwards, and Freshman Bri Dailey. Edwards and Dailey also punched tickets to the Regional in the open 400 Meter Dash as Dailey was Runner Up and Edwards posted a strong 3rd. Senior Lady Eagle thrower Jennessa Shields continued to shine as she advanced to the Regional in both throwing events. For the 2nd straight year Shields was the Sectional Champion in the Disc. She also added a Runner Up finish in the Shot Put. Other Regional Qualifiers on the night were Senior Abby Sneed who took 2nd in the Pole Vault, Sophomore Erika Newhouse with a 3rd behind Campbell in the Long Jump, and Sophomore Quinn Brunner and Freshman Rossi Skinner who both received callbacks in the 1600 Meter Run. The Lady Eagles now await potential additional callbacks from the 4 Sectional sites that filter into the IHSAA Fort Wayne Regional. Two of those Sectionals were postponed due to weather Tuesday and so results will to be know until Thursday. The Lady Eagles that did or will advance compete next Tuesday May 27th at Fort Wayne Carroll.
