OHTF Lady Eagles Shields & Campbell Win Regional Titles to Advance to State - Lady Eagles Finish Top 10 at Regional for 2nd Straight Year

The results for the OHTF Lady Eagles at Tuesday's IHSAA Fort Wayne Carroll Regional were very similar to 2024. For the 2nd straight season the OHTF Lady Eagles had a pair of Regional Champions, a pair of State Qualifiers, as well as a Top 10 team finish. It marked the 1st time in program history the Lady Eagles had multiple Regional Champions in back to back years as well as the 1st time for back to back Top 10 Team Finishes. Lady Eagle Seniors Jennessa Shields and Ellie Campbell both won Regional Championships in their respect events. By finishing in the Top 3 of their event both qualified for the IHSAA State Finals next week. Shields won the Disc with a throw of 117-3. Shields had entered the event as the #1 seed after throwing a new personal best 117-7 a week ago at the IHSAA Marion Sectional. Shields became the just the 4th Lady Eagle to qualify for State in the Disc joining Katie Shepherd 2015, Christina Carter 2007, and Vicki Levensky 1983. She also became the 1st to win a Regional Title in the event. Shields also added a 10th on the night in the Shot Put missing the finals by just 3 inches. Campbell won the Long Jump for the 2nd straight year with a jump of 17-10.5. Campbell posted this mark on her 2nd attempt of the competition and held off the field the rest of the night after entering the event as the 3rd seed from Sectional and 4th seed on season best. Campbell joined Janae Moffitt as the only Lady Eagles to ever win multiple Regional Titles. She also in the process qualified for the State Finals for the 3rd time. In doing so she joins Moffitt along with Darlene Owings as the only Lady Eagle 3+ time State Qualifiers in program history. Moffitt went to State 4 times in the High Jump from 2012-2015 winning 4 Regional Titles while Owings went to State in the Shot Put in 1983-1985. Campbell has now advanced to the State Finals in the Long Jump each of the last 3 years taking 2nd in 2023 and winning a year ago. Campbell also scored points in the 100 Meter Dash finishing off a strong sprint season with a 6th place finish. She doubled back on tired legs to take 12th in the 200 Meter Dash. With Shields and Campbell's State qualifications it marked the 4th straight season an OHTF Lady Eagle has advanced to the State Finals. It's just the 2nd 4 year streak in program history. Combined with the boys it made now 9 straight years at least 1 OHTF Athlete has made the State Finals and 19 of the last 20 years. Behind Shields and Campbell's big wins the Lady Eagles finished 8th overall as a team with 25 points. They were the best fishing Class 2a school trailing only large 5a-6a schools and 2 3a schools. State Ranked #4 Fort Wayne Carroll won the Regional Title with 110.5 points. It was the 1st back to back Top 10 finishes for the Lady Eagles after a 9th in 2024. Fort Wayne Northop was 2nd, Concordia Lutheran 3rd, Homestead 4th, and Columbia City 5th. The only other scoring for the Lady Eagles came from Senior Cail Bowlin wrapping up a great sprint career in 7th in the 200 Meter Dash. Bowlin had matched her personal best in the event in the trials in 26. 7. Other Lady Eagle competitors on the night were Junior Lexi Nuber who scratched the 100 Meter Hurdles then took 12th in the 300 Meter Hurdles to wrap up her stellar season. Freshman Bri Dailey battled sickness to still post a 11th place in the 400 Meter Dash while Sophomore Lilly Edwards took a solid 13th in the event. Sophomore Quinn Brunner matched her personal best 5:38 taking 14th in the 1600 Meter Run to conclude her breakout season. Sophomore Erika Newhouse took 14th in the Long Jump also breaking through in the event this spring, while Senior Abby Sneed concluded her strong career with a 16th in the Pole Vault. The Lady Eagles had two relays compete on the night both in the fast heat. The 4x100 Meter Relay of Seniors Bowlin and Riley Alfandre along with Junior Ava Keith and Sophomore Annie Hale bettered their Sectional time but finished just outside the points in 9th. The 4x400 Meter Relay finished 13th after losing Dailey to an illness. Nuber, Edwards, and Bowlin were joined by Junior Audrey Rex. Shields and Campbell will compete in the IHSAA State Finals on Saturday June 7th at North Central High School in Indianapolis.
