Despite all her accolades, championships, records, and success the one thing that had not found its way into OHTF Lady Eagle Senior Ellie Campbell's grasp was a Top 9 Podium 1st Team All State Medal. Saturday at the 51st Annual IHSAA State Girls Track & Field Championships that missing piece was no more. Campbell who entered her 3rd straight State Finals as the 12th seed popped her season best 18-3.25 on her 2nd jump of the competition to earn her 7th Place and a spot on top of the All State Podium. Campbell's jump had her sitting 5th after prelims but 2 competitors bettered her mark in the finals. Campbell's jump was the 2nd best of her career, just the 3rd time in her career she was over 18 feet, and just 3 inches off her own program record. Campbell became the 1st Lady Eagle to earn an All State Medal since Margo Hornocker in 2018. She joined Hornocker and Janae Moffitt as the only Lady Eagle athletes to earn a Podium All State Medal in Program History. Kya Crooke of Hertiage Christian won the event in a NEW State Record 20-4.75, a record that had stood since 1986. 2nd through 9th place were separated by just 8.5 inches. Campbell's effort Saturday also earned her a spot on the Indiana Senior All Star Team. Campbell competed for the Junior All Stars a year ago and again joins Moffitt and Hornocker as the only Lady Eagles in Program History to wear the Indiana All Star uniform. Campbell's medal marked the 3rd straight year an OHTF athlete found their way to the podium. After just 3 medals in program history up through 2011, OHTF athletes have now collected 22 medals since 2012. Senior Classmate Jennessa Shields wrapped up one of the most successful careers for a Lady Eagle thrower Saturday as well finishing 23rd in the Disc. Shields who ranks 4th all time in program history in both the Shot Put and Disc threw 110-7 to earn the Top 25 finish. Her finish meant all 4 OHTF athletes that competed in the State Finals this year finished the season in the Top 25 of their respective event. Shields was the 1st Lady Eagle thrower competing at the State Finals since 2015. Campbell and Shields combined to help lead the Lady Eagles over the last 4 years to 4 county titles, 4 conference titles, 3 sectional titles, they collectively won 7 individual Sectional titles, and 3 individual Regional titles. Campbell will compete in the Indiana All Star event at Hamilton Southeastern High School on Saturday June 14th.
