For the 2nd straight weekend the OHXC Golden Eagles were able to put together a great 2nd half of a 5k to win another major Invitational - this time winning the annual Oak Hill Invitational by 1 point over a talented Delta team. After winning the 41 team Jeremy Wright Invitational a week ago the Golden Eagle found themselves trailing Delta and battling Hamilton Heights with 1,000 meters to go in the 11 team invite. But a strong effort on their home course down the stretch allowed the boys to pull out the 1 point win. The Golden Eagles finished with 63 points, Delta had 64 and Hamilton Heights finished with 67. Another top ranked small school in Bluffton was a close 4th with 87 points. Seniors Corban Tippey and Brayden Sommers both set lifetime personal bests to lead the way and record Top 15 Medal performances finishing 4th and 7th. Tippey posted a Program Top 25 All Time mark at 16:32 while Sommers at 16:53 became just the 47th athlete in Program History to break the 17 minute barrier. Also earning a medal was Junior Wyatt Hart who had another huge last 2,000 meters moving way up in the standings to also set a personal best pushing the sub 17 barrier in 9th. Sophomore Josh Clark and Freshman Cooper McQuiston also were passing multiple bodies down the stretch to post personal bests and finish on the Podium with a 20th and 23rd respectively. Sophomore Bret Hueston just missed the Top 25 Podium in 26th while Junior Eli Leak rounded out the Varsity Top 7 in a highly respectable 32nd. Finishing outside the Varsity Top 7 but also posting impressive Top 45 finishes were Freshman Graham Arrendale coming in at 37th and Sophomore Gavin Key grabbing 43rd. The Golden Eagles compete next Saturday September 6th in the Columbus North Invitational.
