The OHXC Lady Eagles put together their best run of season Saturday putting 4 runners in the Top 10 to win the IHSAA Marion Sectional Championship over a very talented Yorktown team 41-62. The Lady Eagles came in having not beat Yorktown the defending Sectional Champion all season and were trailing by 5 points at the halfway point but ran away from the Lady Tigers the last half of the race for their 5th Sectional Championship the last 9 seasons. Previously the Lady Eagles had not won a Sectional since 1993. With the win the OHXC Ladies and Men have now combined to win 9 IHSAA Sectional Championships the last 9 years. The Class 2a Top 10 ranked Lady Eagles were led by Senior Biruk Travis and Junior Quinn Brunner who went 1st and 3rd to help post a low team score. Travis was the Sectional Individual Champion in 20:37 for the 2nd time in her career having also won her Freshman year in 2022. Travis joins Mollie Gamble as the only Lady Eagles in OHXC Program History to win multiple individual Sectional Titles. Brunner's continued improvement helped as she moved up to 3rd after finishing 12th last season. Joining Travis and Brunner in the Top 10 were Sophomores Lilly Hunt in 9th and Rossi Skinner in 10th who both had great days improving upon their ranking to help the team secure the win. Travis, Brunner, Hunt, and Skinner each earned All Sectional Honors and are traditional Individual Regional Qualifiers. Senior Kaitlyn Scalf ran tough as the 5th scorer to secure the win finishing 22nd. Classmate Sophia Rowland and Junior Lilly Snyder ran tough in 24th and 29th. The Lady Eagles advanced to next Saturday's IHSAA New Haven Super Regional to compete for a chance at the IHSAA State Finals. It marked the 18th straight year the Lady Eagles have advanced to the Regional round. The Lady Eagles had missed the Regional for nearly 15 years prior. It marked the 13th straight year the Ladies finished in the Top 3 and 10th time in the last 12 years they finished either Champion of Runner Up. The IHSAA New Haven Regional is Saturday October 25th at Huntington University. The Top 5 Teams advance to the State Finals.
