OHXC Golden Eagle Senior Corban Tippey put the finishing touches on the Fall Sports season at Oak Hill and on his strong cross country career with a highly respectable run at Saturday's IHSAA State Cross Country Finals. Tippey became the 20th Golden Eagle boy athlete in OHXC Program History to qualify for the State finals individually last weekend with his best run of the season at the IHSAA New Haven Super Regional. Competing with 250 athletes Tippey covered the legendary LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute in a strong time of 16:50 to finish 174th. His time ties Cameron Balser for the 11th best time by an OHXC Golden Eagle athlete on the course. Balser ran the same time on the course in 2009 when he finished 23rd. He also became just 1 of 7 Golden Eagle athletes to break 17 minutes on the course. He joined Neno Bellinotti, Matt McClain, Bryant Blair, Cameron Balser, Owen Jackson, and Trenton Sweet. His time was 21 seconds faster than what he recorded on the same course earlier in the season. Springs Valley Junior Calvin Seitz won the race in 15:01. #1 State Ranked all season Columbus North dominated the meet winning with a low 50 points some 38 points better than 2nd place Noblesville. Tippey's run wrapped up a breakout season for the senior in which he was the Grant 4 Champion, Central Indiana Conference Runner Up, and led the Golden Eagles to the State's #2 Class 2a ranking, a win streak of over 2 months, and team championships at the Grant 4 and Conference. Tippey who entered the season as the 33rd fastest Golden Eagle in Program History recorded a new personal best of 16:16 good enough for now 11th all time just behind Marc Cabe. His time is the 6th best the last 22 seasons (under Coach Brunner) and was the 8th best ever by a Golden Eagle senior. He also recorded the 2nd best time ever by a Golden Eagle on the Huntington University course trailing only Owen Jackson. Tippey's senior season as a whole was ranked online by the computer ranking system as the 19th best season in OHXC Program.
